Cost of Attending Game Out of Control
According the San Francisco Examiner,
attending a Forty Niners
game in 2004 is the third most expensive in the nation, "lagging
behind only Gillette Stadium -- the sparkling home of the Super
Bowl champion New England Patriots -- and the Washington Redskins'
FedEx Field."
Just another example of the "soak the fan" management style of Doctor
John York and his Ohio based stupidity. According to the Team
Marketing Research report, "much of the increase stems from the 10.3
percent hike in ticket prices
to an average of $64. In contrast, the Raiders' ticket prices average
$58 and remained the same this year, as did its fan cost index, which
stands at $331."
And what do we get for the third highest cost, a crappy team, a crappy
stadium and even crappier ownership. Nobody outside the locker
room expects much this season from the 49ers,
who won five championships from 1981-94 -- yet it's still difficult to
quash the optimism surrounding a franchise still associated with
excellence, even after six wildly uneven seasons under John York's
ownership.
