Erickson’s
Best Call
You have to give
some props
to ol’ Dennis Erickson, he just made his best  move of the season
by not taking
the Ole Miss job. During a Wednesday
(12/15)
morning team meeting with the Forty Niner players, Erickson told them
that he will
not leave to become the new head coach at the University of Mississippi.
Dennis Erickson has
indicated that he wants to stay with the team. He
has three seasons and $7.5 million remaining on his contract
with the 49ers. I believe that Erickson has had little chance to
succeed in San Francisco, given the ruthless budget cuts and
personnel
decisions made by Donahue and York -- but the 49ers' brass also
believes its
stripped-down roster should have won more than two games at this point.
GM Donahue has said
he won't
fire Erickson, and Erickson has said he won't quit. The 49ers were
expected to
attempt to fire some of Erickson’s assistants in a shakeup that might
force the
coach to leave.
Now Dr. John York has to make a decision;
Fire Erickson and pay out the $7.5 million
owed on the contract or keep Erickson and face the furry of the Niner
Faithful.
I Love It…..
Now we will see how
committed
Dr. Jerk is to building a winning organization.
My belief is that the
York-ster will wait to the off season and try out buy Dennis off. That would be a great meeting.
York - “Hey Dennis, how much do you need to
leave?”
Erickson –
“All $7.5 Million”
York – “Yeah, but next year is going to be as
bad. I'm not going to get any more good
players. We are still in Cap Hell.”
Erickson –
“Cap Hell?!? I thought I have been in
regular hell.”
Then they stare at each
other…. for a long time….. Can you hear the clock ticking?
York – “Hey Dennis, have you seen my precious
penny collection?”
