SO MUCH FOR BUSH BOWL
Well, so much for the Niners
and Reggie Bush. Let's make no mistake about it. I am on record as
wanting that #1 pick and wanting Reggie Bush as a Niner. I think Bush
has the potential to be a superstar and I am up for taking the risk.
Alas, the football Gods and the Niners running game and the Lambs
decided, it was not to be. In the long run, maybe it will work out best
for us.
Short term, the win felt
great. Beating the Rams twice in a season never sucks! After living a
season with no hope, any win and every win feel great! It was great to
see Alex Smith step up and show some skills as a QB. Smith showed that
with a running game, some protection and a receiver or two, he might
just be okay. So I will take the win and feel good about it!
As for the draft, there is
the argument about tieing up salary cap space in just two players. We
all know the Yorkmeister was doing cartwheels at not having to pay that
next signing bonus. If Bush were to get hurt or Smith be a bust, the
Niners would be even more screwed.
Then it goes to need. The
Niners OL is learning, but it needs more help. We have the QB thanks to
all the $$$ we have spent on smith. I like what I see from Gore and
maybe Hicks as a second stringer. (cut Barlow now, but that is another
rant) So what we really need are some go-to receivers and a TE because
we can not count on Eric Johnson. On D, we need lots of help. So
without Bush on our horizon, it takes the pressure off of management on
trade him or pick him. Now they can concentrate on best player
available or trading down to get more picks, always a good idea.
Now I don't like the idea of
jumping all the way to the 7th pick and that could happen with a win.
But for now, I guess we will live with the excitement of a 3rd win. A
road win. And the prospect of two in a row to build momentum for next
year. We'll see. I like the idea of being positive, because heck it is
the Holidays, and there has not been much to be positive about this
year.
